New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, known as the King Khan of the Indian film industry, has topped the UK list of 'World's Top 50 Asian Celebrities' previewed in London on Wednesday.

The 58-year-old actor, who achieved double success at the box-office this year with action thrillers 'Pathan' and 'Jawaan', is currently gearing up for the Christmas release of comedy drama 'Donkey'. Khan beat off stiff competition to make the annual list published by British weekly Eastern Eye on Friday.

“By the end of 2023, King Khan will become the first leading man of the modern era to have three big Bollywood blockbuster hits in a calendar year,” said Asjad Nazir, entertainment editor, Eastern Eye, who compiled the list.

“By bringing large audiences back to theaters with global enthusiasm, the actor has given a much-needed boost to the declining film industry and made a transformative impact. The history-making superstar outshined everyone else with his talent and reminded global audiences what escapist Bollywood cinema is capable of,” he said.

The top 50 list celebrating the South Asian stars who shone brightest in 2023 is based on their impressive work, breaking boundaries and generally being inspirational throughout the year. It is compiled as a result of public input, with readers and social media users nominating their favourites.

Popular actress Alia Bhatt stood second for her influence in Bollywood and Hollywood and being a strong role model for working mothers.

The oldest star in the list is 81-year-old Amitabh Bachchan (35th) and the youngest is 20-year-old television star Sumbul Touqeer (44th), who said: “It feels great to be included in the annual list alongside so many prestigious international names.

“I'm also proud to be the youngest on this list again and I hope I can inspire others starting their journey that anything is possible. I'm grateful to be able to do what I love and grateful for all the support.
